Andrea Jung has been chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Avon Products, Inc. since 1999. Jung is a magna cum laude graduate from Princeton and is fluent in Mandarin.
Jung joined in Avon in 1994 as a company's president in its product marketing group. She was became president, global marketing in 1996 and executive vice president/president of global marketing and new business in 1997. Her responsibilities at that time centered primarily on market research, joint ventures, and strategic planning.
She served as president and chief operating officer over all business units of Avon worldwide. She has also been on the company's board of directors since 1998.
Prior to joining Avon, Ms. Jung was Executive Vice President at Neiman Marcus from 1991 to 1993, responsible for accessories, cosmetics and women''s, intimate and children''s apparel. Prior to that, she was Senior Vice President, General Merchandising Manager, at I. Magnin from 1987 to 1991.
Jung has served on the board of directors of General Electric since 1998. She joined Apple's board of directors on 7 January 2008.
In 2001 she was named one of the 30 most powerful women in America by Ladies Home Journal. Jung was named one of Forbes 100 Most powerful women in 2004. In 2009, Ms. Jung was ranked #5 on Fortune magazine's "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" list, which she has been on since the list''s inception, and #25 on the Forbes list of "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women." In addition, she has been ranked on The Wall Street Journal''s "50 Women to Watch'' and was one of only 18 executives included in U.S News & World Report''s "America''s Best Leaders 2007."
